We, a family owned and operated business, have been serving Northern Virginia families since 1972. Just as the memory of your favorite Teddy Bear elicits feelings of warmth and security, the staff at each Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool is busy creating the same atmosphere of love and security for your child. At Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool, we recognize and respect that each child is different and unique. Your child has their own special gifts and developmental continuum. Our seasoned and diverse caregivers and teachers endeavor to provide HighScopes active participatory learning experiences framework throughout the year to enhance the growth end development of your child. The HighScope curriculum is a high quality developmentally based program founded on the philosophy of “active participatory learning” , in which children and staff are engaged, interactive partners in the learning process.
We understand children’s brains are developing at a rapid pace. By three years old their brain is 80-85% developed. Between the ages two and five years old children learn 95% of what they will need throughout their lifetime. They will be learning the names of thousands of objects while navigating the complexities of social interactions, making decisions, learning skills in problem solving, beginning math, and with persistence developing their own hypothesis through critical thinking.
Mission Statement
High Scope Curriculum
Our Open Door Policy
Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool provides environments that teach
and provides adults who care. At Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool,
each child is important. Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool recognizes
the need for and strives to provide all children and parents with warm,
nurturing, friendly relationships with teachers and care givers. In addition,
Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool provides each child with a preschool
experience that includes an individualized learning program based on six
key competency areas.
By individualizing learning based upon each child’s interests and strengths,
children are allowed to progress as far as they are developmentally able
in areas of language and literacy, logic and mathematics, movement
and music, creative representation, social relations and initiative. From
infancy through pre-Kindergarten, children ascend a ladder of progress in
each of the competency areas with careful attention provided to
tailoring activities to challenge children to climb to the next rung of
development.
A special program is provided that promotes well being as children are
provided with the tools to express emotions, learn self-control and solve
social problems. A reading and writing program is provided for our Junior
and Senior pre-Kindergarten classes that expose children to the written
language through the use of quality children’s literature and a variety of
writing experiences. Infant, toddler and two-year-old programs are rich
and stimulating with emphasis on large and small motor development,
building on sounds to facilitate language development, multi-sensory
exploration, hand and eye coordination and self help skills.
The open door policy of Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool affords
parents the opportunity to be an integral part of the learning experience through volunteering time and talent in the classroom or center, parent-teacher conferences and parent education workshops.
The High Scope Curriculum emphasizes adult-child interaction, a carefully designed learning environment, and a plan-do-review process that strengthens initiative and self-reliance in children and young people. Teachers and students are active partners in shaping the educational experience.
The HighScope advantage: A balanced approach for young learners and the people who teach them. The HighScope Curriculum integrates all aspects of child and youth development. Using research-validated strategies, this approach enhances each young person’s growth in the foundations of academics as well as in social-emotional, physical, and creative areas.
